Thank you, farmgal and Beth. I plan to phone the bylaw officer next week. I will definitely check things out very carefully. It would be heartbreaking to buy land and find out that we can't use it in the way that we want.

Mrs T.
call the Town see what the City Bylaws are and make sure you call the Township / Region as well. distances from the town centre make a difference, as well, the rules will be considerably different, if it is in the Region and close too but not in the Township or City of.
Understand? Migraine sorry not communicating well today.
The realtor should provide the info, but depending on how ethical or knowledgeable the realtor is, the info should be taken with a grain of salt as it were.
here is a link posted by Taz on land in middle Ontario/eastern Ontario, the second link is for middle and northern Ontario
both have pertinent info listed there as well.
April 14th sounds fine to me.....any week day except Tuesday works too.....Let me know where and when and I'll be there.

Sorry to hear about your migraine 🙁
Thank you for the pertinent info, and the caution about real estate agents. I will have to do "due diligence", as they say. Thanks also for the land links. I am familiar with them and there are some great retreat properties available. We were looking for raw land, originally, but hubby and I are getting older and it would be easier on us to have at least a small cabin already in place, and hopefully some outbuildings. The particular property we're looking at has an off-grid cabin! By the way, I have been following your blog for awhile now! I enjoyed your post on "Why Live In The North".

😳 aww shucks thanks a bunch..
I have been through 3 realtors in the past 2 months. From what I have found, they are NOT the most ethical folks on the planet. I am heading out again this weekend to look at a few places. I have seen a dozen places and out of the 3 I have bid on, I have been outbid twice and one well, we are still trying to figure out if it is on the market or not... long story.
From what I have found, most counties/townships are pretty open minded when it comes to new ideas. Most county/township websites have basic info about building on them.
Getting back to the original post - a Get-Together for E.Ont. preppers......It was suggested Saturday,April 14th (in 8 days)....after some thought, I realized that it is REALLY crowded and busy at the Experimental Farm on a spring Saturday (probably too busy for a chat). So do you just want to meet up somewhere else where we can just chat? Is Saturday written in stone or do you want to meet on Friday instead....at, say, Tim Hortons or something....for lunch?? Google maps shows there's a Tim Hortons on Terry Fox Drive just off the Queensway (Hwy. 417).....??
I co-own land about halfway between Toronto and Ottawa.
Lived there in tent last summer while doing 1.5 acre market garden. Unfortunately living back in Toronto now for career/income reasons. Still attached to the co-owner property though, will be doing some gardening there part-time; hopefully build a cabin and stockpile supplies there well before the fecal matter hits the fan.
Sat would be my only day to get a car. Personal I dislike Horton's, but can always bring my own drink. Keep me posted.
I am not that fond of Tim's myself and if we are doing lunch, but we have had folks say that they want it easy off the queensway.. Hubby has recommended the Swiss Chalet off of Innus(spelling) turn off the Queensway right by the big costco.. its a easy on and off, lots of notice on the turnoff coming, and it only in a block and has lights at that corner for ease of city driving..
