Hi folks, ive been checking this forum for some time now, and ive been wondering if the cornwall area, specifically Monkland could be considered "safe" considering the proximity with the state of New York. Im 21 yo actually and im not living in Ontario at the moment, but my grand mother recently passed away and she gave her cottage to my mom who dont have time to take care of it. Me and my girlfriend are looking for a place to settle and start an autonomous base for survivalisms purposes, and this place really looks like the perfect spot... But some people gave me advices to keep away from this area as its too close to USA, plus telling me that folks there wont like me because im a Quebecer, wich i think is a strange advice since all of my mothers family are born and raised in Ontario and i speak english without any problems... Never had any trouble with a fellow Canadian before in my life but i still have those "warnings", so what do you guys think about it? I would be glad to hear from you! Thanks in advance, Clarence

Greetings.
New to this forum but have been researching prepping for over two decades.
I live in Ottawa at the moment but thats changing next week. moving out nearly to Hawksbury.
I tried to move west of the city but couldn't find anything decent in my price range. It's only a rental but it's a good site.
It's not set up for prep right now. Other then has a cold cellar. It used to have a wood stove but was removed for some reason. The chimney is still in though so I plan to put wood back in. And no back up power yet.
I've actually got quite a few friends into this but I had never heard the word preppers before last year.
i would love to meet and chat with more people.
I didn't realise there were so many in eastern Ontario. I always viewed east of Ottawa as a bad place to be I felt trapped if something went wrong as its too congested. I don't like the idea of being surrounded by cattle farmers with guns if something goes wrong.
If meets are still happening next summer I would love to come.
If anyone has thought of it I have friends that own a private camp ground west of Ottawa. They are really cheap about 12$ per night per person and they allow pets. I go there often. Could do a weekend meet. Gives more chance to talk. And if we have enough people we will pretty much have the place to ourselves or at the very least we can have a group area where we would be left alone.
Anyways Wanted to say hi.

Welcome to the forum CTSG,
I wouldn't worry too much about being a Quebeker, I am one and I don't think anyone in the eastern Ontario hates me because of it. They may dislike me for other reasons, but not for that. oddly enough I am heading for Cornwall in a couple hours to do some x-mas shopping...you just can't get an English speaking LOL Elmo her in Quebec!

As for being too close to the US, most of Canada's population lives close to the border, I really wouldn't worry about it. In case of SHTF, any zombies from the US would not be much different that the zombies next door. As a matter of fact my long term plans are to get a small hobby farm in the Ottawa area as a BOL.

Glad to see another Quebeker on the forum.
Bienvenue!

Welcome CSTG - please come to our next preppers get-together (still unplanned) - you would be more than welcome! We've had a few meetings in Eastern Ontario near Ottawa which included preppers from Quebec...... we are ALL Canadians.
Your BOL plans sound pretty fine to me. Looking forward to reading your posts.

A good time to invest in spf3000 if you live on the NK penninsula.
Oh November 17, how I fear thee...

In a full blown SHFT event, being surrounded by Cattle Ranchers with guns would be one of the safer places to be, in depth coverage and security.
