Hi Folks,

I have been on the phone and had contact with Alfried campus and its to late in the year to book in to get the kitchen so the idea of a canning day just went out the window at the moment, so I would recommend that we move it over to the seed saving indeed unless someone else wants to come up with a idea that works well with it being sept?

So given that we have new folks that have not been to meets yet, and the fact that our yards, gardens etc are not what I would call productive at the moment, aug is looking to be a bit lighter in the work load then expected, so I am going to throw out the idea of a lunch/visit for either Aug 18th or 19th at the swiss chalet by the costco in ottawa as the central meeting spot, start time 11, end time around 2..

Bring yourself, your ideas and any question you have etc.

Throwing it out there, Sept 15th/16th or Sept 22/23rd for the Sept get together..

Thoughts at the moment
1) Seed Saver information and practice, including tomato's and sqaush etc, Would love to go over fall garden preparing information, what about a seed swap?
2) Basic vinagar making, I know I will have grapes ready at that time of the year, and we can have a hands on demo of getting them ready and started in the fermenting process
3)Anyone interested in basic work on how to scrape a hide? if so, I could bring a fresh rabbit hide to do a hands on demo, and a started hide to do the next stage with etc, I would perfer to show the old fashioned egg yolk hide treatment, instead of more common acid based.
4) Could do a basic cheese making demo?

??? thoughts, open to ideas..

Do we want to do it at the same place as the last meet? for the sept event, it would give us lots of room to do the different projects?

Can't make it that weekend in August because my son is getting married. But the September dates sound fine. The location in Limoges was excellent although a great drive for some.
Seed saving and cheesemaking sound great.

Nice to hear from you again Artdiazg. You are developing you plan rapidly and making great process. You are ahead of me in the canning area. I still have not done that.

If the August meet is just a lunch thing, I will respectfully pass...
Although I am VERY interested in the September meet.
The last location works for me and I like the seed saving or cheese making ideas.
Sept. 22/23 weekend works well for us.

yes, the aug is indeed a lunch thing, I understand totally, its more of a chance for new folks and or folks that have not been able to get to the last one to have a chance to meet and greet..

Ideally the sept meet is going to be a working meet, seed saving and cheese making seems to be the bigger interest so lets go with that..

I would will not want any kind of markup, it woud be straight cost only.. If you are interested let me know by no later then the 15th of aug, please and thanks.

I'm not sure that you can...but I can as mod.
Try using the edit button...I don't know if it will work for you though.
I went and changed it for you.

Sorry farmgal, can you please send the coordinates or directions so we can figure out where it is?
I am terrible with east of the 416 😉
You can PM us if you want to send us the directions.
Thanks!

For the Aug meeting

The Swiss Chalet is on Cyrville Rd just off Innes Rd, so if you come into ottawa, you want the queensway, and you are going to come off at the Innes, you will be able to see the big costco, once you come down, you will see the Swiss Chalet, look forward to meeting you and Hope that helps..

For the Sept Meeting..

To get to P1, take Highway 417 to exit 79 (well-marked since this is the exit for Calypso Waterpark). Go through the town of Limoges and follow the sharp right curve in the road onto Saumure Road. Stay on this road — the name changes to Indian Creek — and take the second left onto a road which is also Indian Creek. You’ll find P1 less than a kilometre down this road.
