Redneck - I think all of us would be at least a little concerned about that. I have heard from several people now that the people volunteering at the Storehouses have been very polite and helpful with no pressure whatsoever. I am going to make an appointment for sometime soon and take notes and perhaps take some pictures (if I'm allowed).
Road trip!!! Anyone interested in coming with me?? Perhaps as a group people would feel less uncomfortable. Please PM me and I will see what I can arrange.
I'm from Brantford myself - where abouts are you? I might see if the Hamilton group is interested in that kind of a road trip.
It's better to prep for something that may never happen than not prep for something that does.

I think this would be a really good road trip and I want to try to involve the Hamilton group, there are some good people there and I think they'd benefit from this. I'll bring it up at our next meet up (nov 4th) and see what they say.

I'm going to try to ask this question tactfully because I'm meaning no offense here, so here goes:
This looks really good. It's a fantastic service and the prices are beyond reasonable. But it's via an organized religion, also one known for being pretty active at trying to convert/push their beliefs.
Myself, I'm not Mormon, I don't care if you are but I do NOT want to be bugged about joining a religion.
So if you walk in there as some sort of Protestant, Catholic, Muslim, Hindu, or no religion, can you expect to have your beliefs and lifestyle respected? Do you have to give them your address? Or is it an anonymous thing. Like, Hi, I'm Mike, you guys rock, thanks for the cheap beans, here's the money, see ya'll later.
khk have you been to this place? If you are Mormon I expect the above is moot for you, but could you provide some insight into that at all?
I had to comment on this. I have been using one of the LDS family tree research centers for over 10 years. Not once has anyone been anything other then very helpful no matter what I looked like going in. Nothing about religion in any time I have been there to the point that I had no idea they did the prepping until I found this group.
Just got back from he one in toroto,, hre is a little heads up for you.
They have no way of accesing voicemail except on tuesday and sat. even if they are booked they will allow you to come down if you are buying bulk or pre packaged. The one in toronto is not doing the canning and are cancelling appt because soon they canning machines are being sent out for servicing. They people that run it a husband and wife are super nice and helpful. if you are interested in doing mylar they have appts because they are sending out the caning machines and most want cans. the best time to get a hold of them is on the days their open in the morning. They told me if tuesday or saturday is not good they will try to accomodate on different days. it is only the husband and wife hat are volunteers they have no others.
I called them this monring for a appt and they said because i was doing bulk we couldcome right away even though they had 2 groups booked.
I have been serving free lunches in our church for many years and not ones ask anybody about his or hers religion. We help people according to the needs not their beliefs .That was my point.I believe teaching people by example not by talking.

I was there today too.
Turns out they've got to send their canning equipment for periodic service & maintenance in Alberta next week.
They don't have the exact time frame, but it should be back within few weeks. Just call and inquire... 😉
Red, I had exactly the same concern when setting up an appointment. But...
Quite frankly, being far from Christian myself, I had my suspicions about whether they'll try to "convert" me, or at least to gently push me in that direction... Not at all! Not a single question, not a slightest hint.
Yup, they let mind your own business alright 😎
And no, you don't need to give them any personal info - unless you want to borrow a portable canner (in which case they, obviously, would want to have some control over where it is going and how they can get back eventually 😉 )
That's very fair! That being the case these are some good people and I'm VERY interested in their service.
For the sake of full disclosure (something that I forgot to mention after my previous visit): they do ask you to sign in for safety compliance reasons (just the name, no phone or address needed), and you have to sign a form confirming that you haven't got any of a number of contagious deceases (which I find very fair).
Oh, and they prayed for a safe work and healthy and useful food storage, before the work began. You don't have to take part, though - it's completely optional. We didn't 🙄
when i was there today there was no praying I got there around 11am, they were also waiting for a lady from sudbury
Well our road trip may have to wait a few weeks. I'll try to call them on Tuesday and see what I can arrange.
How long does it take to pack the cans?? How many can you do in an hour?

doesn't take long really, first you open the bags of product fill the cans then head to the machne, it is really pretty quick.
Hello, approximately how many cans can you do in an hour? How much time should one expect to be there on their first visit? Thanks for the info. I called for the info but the place is closed right now, while the couple that run the place are on a trip.
I'd say, once you get the touch of it, you can probably pack as many as 20-25 cans per hour.
Thanks khk - that's what I wanted to know too. I called last week. The machines are out for servicing until November 20th. Call back after that and they are going to do their best to catch up by adding extra days for people to come in if needed. Very nice guy on the phone! I'm really looking forward to going.

Hello, finally made to the home storage. Great place, people very nice. They take most forms of payment, we used cash and credit. Our group picked up prepackaged cans only. So 14 cases, or 84 #10 cans for less than $300 and no tax on their food products. Tax only if you are buying from the list on the right side of the form.
