Hi Markham, thanks for the reminder! I got busy over the holidays and put this on the back burner 🙂 I'm glad it worked out well for you. I want to get back to work on this myself.
Hey all,
Just wanted to share a tip with you regarding these #10 cans.
Of course, you can purchase from LDS the white plastic lids to cover those cans you decide to open.
As a matter of fact, they give you 2 such lids for free with a box of 6 cans.
But if you want more - don't buy them.
I found that the kids from the Kawartha ice cream buckets fit just perfectly! 😎
Ironically, just had an event for my members at the LDS yesterday. With several team players it can be a smooth process and generally goes a lot quicker then most people expect. With our group of about 15 people we started at 9:00 and were out of there at 11:30.
Interestingly, their wheat can apparently be planted and grown. Something I'll be experimenting with this summer.
Powdered milk is substantially more expensive here in Canada compared to our neighbors in the south. This has something to do with the import laws of dairy products from the US to Canada.
I've found a better price on spaghetti pasta (25 lbs. for $15 compared to 25 lbs. $23.85) - aside from that their prices are quite reasonable.
I do have #10 cans and bulk where I place the contents in mylar bags with oxygen absorbers. My concern with the #10 cans is that the people from the LDS have no idea of the CC for the oxygen absorber. I'm sure it's fine considering the small amount of headspace but it would still be nice to know. The correct size oxygen absorber is very important when sealing food for the long term.
Speaking with a counterpart prepper organization in New York - rumor has it that the LDS may be shutting down their operation to the public so my suggestion is to get in there sooner then later. But converting your belief system could also be an option to get such great deals? 🙂
