Viral Pandemic Preparedness
Cost: FREE
When: Sunday, January 6, 2013 @ 4pm
Where: Richmond Hill - PM me for details

We don’t have to look too far back in time to see that this is very scary stuff. In 1918 the Spanish Flu spread across the world and killed more people then WW1. It’s estimated that one third of the population became infected.

The irony about this plausible world-end view is that we’ve seen it happen so recently in time yet most of us are not prepared for it.

How plausible you ask?

“…we go back to what it’s like pre-1930 when the largest cause of death were infectious diseases caused mostly by bacteria.”
Head of Infectious Disease Researcher at (McMaster University)

Ironically, other types of disasters could have a chain-reaction effect that would lead to a viral outbreak or the spread of disease. For example: EMP = No power = No Clean Water = Disease.

As a prepper I have a presupposition that anything is possible and that’s why I prepare for everything and anything. But when it comes to a viral outbreak I personally think the odds are greater or more likely then other catastrophic events.

I will be doing a presentation on the history of viral infections, it’s impact on society, social reactions and more. I’ll be answering questions like the following:

What will the Canadian government do if there’s an outbreak?
How would the hospitals react to a surplus of people?
What are the most effective ways to protect myself against infection?

We’ll be discussing Canada’s procedure for responding to a pandemic and the roles of entities like the military, police, hospitals and world health organization in the event of a pandemic.

This event has nothing to do with being intimidated about viral pandemics. It's all about understanding and being prepared. And through our understanding and preparedness we will all know exactly what to do. But you don't take my word for it.....we’re going to get a medical professional out to this event so that we can have a clear understanding on all of the following areas of viruses:

Means of Transmission
Symptoms and signs
Preventative Measures
Quarantine and Isolation Rooms
Pandemic Supplies

By the end of this session you won’t be a doctor but you’ll have an excellent understanding of what you'll need to do in the event of a viral pandemic.

Can you post who the medical professional will be/qualifications when you get a chance. It will help me decide whether I can attend.
thanks.

Right now we have a registered nurse. I'm also trying to get someone from Emergency Management Ontario to come out and outline their specific steps in terms of responding to such an disaster.

Ahh, yes. Who could forget that?

For anyone interested I'm working on getting a representative from Richmond Hill's EMS team in addition to a representative from Emergency Management Ontario. A rep from the fire department will like show up as well. So it's going to be quite an educational event.
