Got a dehydrator and dried
10 lbs potatoes
5 lbs onions
5 lb carrots
4 lb green beans
2 lbs wax beans
2 large turnips
Lovein it and havein fun

i've dried a 1L jar of mix peppers (yellow, green, orange, red) and a zip lock bag stuff almost to not being able to close of dried berry tomatoes. . . i've used some of them already. the dried peppers tasted great in an omelette (better then fresh i think) and the dried tomatoes added a sweetness to a fake beef stir frie type thing with a hickory BBQ sauce.

i've never dried before, nor cooked with it, so it's been fun.

oh, did 8 or so apples, used my apple peeler/corer/slicer too. . . what a week lol

adsum. . . aut viam inveniam aut faciam

Put up 12 pounds of Sooji into repurposed 3-2 liter pop bottles (Sooji is an Indian type of semolina, less processed than Cream of Wheat).
Bought it during the Ramadan sales at $1.99/4lb/1.82 kg bag...that's way cheaper than the $1.99 for 800g of Cream of Wheat sale price this week in the flyers).
Bought 14 cans of various "dinner in a can" at Dollar Tree...$1.00 a can...all made in Canada or the USA, I won't buy it if it's from China as I don't trust their food safety.

I'm the lady you're stuck behind in the grocery store with the over loaded cart filled with cases of tuna, peanut butter, huge bags of rice and the weary looking husband

I'm still new and haven't started any prepping yet but I have a room downstairs in my Apt. building (I'm the Asst. Supr. so only 2 keys to this room) . I have been working last few nights but I am going to clean up this week and use it to start storing items It's not huge maybe 4'x12'. My concerns are rodents and bugs. Any Ideas? Once cleaned suggestions on what to start with?

Rodent bait. Highly neglected but very necessary item. Hanti virus is nothing to mess with in addition to the damage they can do. If bugs are a problem, figure out what you are dealing with and take care of them. Then you can stock.

Bought an attachment so i can fill a 25l water container and use same hose to get water out of it.. not wanting to risk my back picking it up to pour 🙂 need to get a tap for it as well.
bought a few extra lighting things, and a pull top can puller for me and one for the parents. my hands give me hell at times and they may help.
Saved a bunch more tips from links on the boards, converted more movies to formats for my rechargable tv/media player and saved to mem card (hey i'm not gunna be without SOME media), converted and saved a bunch more reading material and music.
Found where i can get more clothes for a cheap price - big guys clothes are pricey.

Candle lanterns from Sail, cheap and small and easy to pack, carry with you.
Some use the cheap tea lights.
Going to make a bunch of meals in jars this weekend. That way if I fall ill, hubby will be able to make dinner.
Also going to dehydrate apples and make more jerky this weekend to add to storage.

Freezing Tomatoes
Drying Seeds
Bought:
50 cans tuna (.89)
5 Jars Peanut Butter
Toilet paper, of course
Moved some of my supplies inside the house from the garage fridge (unplugged) that I use for storage since it will freeze in the winter. Pasta, Sugar, Tea, Salt are all fine out in the cold.

Also Food Basics has some good deals starting today (Friday the 21st) - good for topping up your supplies:
Thick 'n Rich Pasta sauce $1
Broccoli $1
5 lb Carrots $1
5 lb Onions $1
10 lb Potatoes $2 - all veggies Ontario grown
Onions like to be stored in a dry spot, cool. Potatoes can be stored in a very cool spot in their bags or in dry peatmoss. Carrots need to be taken out of their plastic bag and stored in damp peatmoss in very cool area.
Caught 3 mice.

bought some chicken legs for the freezer - 1.29(?) at food basics,
bought some pork loin to cut for chops, separated into servings
dried some more zucchini chips...salt and vinegar...note to self, dont do this again. 😆

not exactly an addition to my preps, but i gave one of my crabapple jellys to the little fella(7yrs old) who helped me pick the bad crabs out of the basket; maybe it'll help him make the connection between 'doing something now' and 'having something awesome to eat in the winter'...you know, like, 'this came from the tree this past fall'...i know i always got a kick out of things like that.

Went to Costco and got the following:
2x 40 double rolls of T.P. (Now on the package it say they are double rolls and that it equals 120 single rolls?? My math isn't that bad or I'm not reading it right.)
18 rolls Paper Towel
20 boxes Kleenex
3L ketchup
2L Mustard

Unfortunately we had to evict someone from the building in which I am the asst. Super. They left behind a ton of crap we have to clean out but I did get an extra propane tank for the BBQ.

I'm actually a VERY picky eater but lately I have been trying new things. Tried broccoli for the first time and found it very bland!!
