In a weird way, it may be good if gov stays shutdown another month. Good teachable moment!

Wishful thinking but considering how many people still live in flood plains I doubt anyone will pay attention.

True enough...how many people suffer through an ice storm, or a stranded car, or a down time in finances...and the moment it passes, its long forgotten and back to the "same old." When was the last recession we had...and you would think people would be smarter with their finances and savings....the exact opposite has happened...

It blows the mind but people refuse to learn. I have a good and long time friend who refuses to “ worry” about the future. Weird, the guys smart, self employed for decades.
We have camped, built log cabins as kids.....he will carry matches and all the normal outdoor gear when camping but refuses to stock up at home. Lives in the burbs and because he has a fireplace ( maybe a cord of wood), and a back pack, he thinks he will be fine if power went down for weeks and months. So he says screw it, I am getting on with living and enjoying life and not going to worry about things beyond my control. I will deal with it then.
Being a healthy type, he asked why I had all those cans of soup in a pantry. I said, well I can quickly eat them cold, I can use them as a base and add good meat and vegetables to them and it supplements the other foods I have. I fully realize they are high in salt.. but they are a quack and easyfix in a stressful moment. He on the other hand believes it’s better to simply buy “fresh” produce from the store. Not sure what he didn’t understand in our previous conversations about stores not being open or stocked but there you have it!

He doesn’t believe in the government so it’s not like he believes they will ride to the rescue. It’s simply, I will cross that bridge when I get there attitude.
I believe there are many like that, then there are the complete clueless, the ones who think gov will help and the ones that may lean our way but due to intentionally negative coverage showing Clem with the missing teeth, people do not wish to be branded a prepper.

While we all have our work cut out for ourselves, I think it’s important that whenever we get a chance to speak on the subject with a neighbor, we do so with the idea of banishing the Clem image. Easy does it, being perhaps the optimal approach.

But yep, people don’t get it. People are also becoming complete snowflakes. School bus service has been canceled for four straight days. First was a silly minus 26c temp and then some snow and today some rain. It’s nuts. Hearing people speak, you would think the world is ending.
Put some cloths on and suck it up! But there you have it and to deny people are becoming more dependent on the state and afraid to take initiative is hard to argue against.

The human element is always the weak link in security.
