Yes Gravlore you are right on the mark there. If the people no longer need to protect themselves from violent perps then the police surely don't need firearms either.

Also anyone see that they have changed up their story again. The initial reports from FOX, CBS and ABC was that there was more than one shooter was involved. I just finished hearing a kid in the school tell how they had a man pinned down and handcuffed in the school. I remember hearing the same initial reports of more than one person involved in the Colorado shootings until those reports were changed. It seems the press in the US really love their lone, crazed gunman's.

Now I do not doubt for an instant that these nutcases are primarily involved but I have a hard time believing the story that they have spun.

I am sure the lamestream media will not be looking at mental health and the effects of the pharmaceuticals that are so prevalent. Guess one only has to count how many commercials on CiaNN in any given hour that are pedaling this pill or that.

I will sound off with a link to this story that did not get much if any play

I wonder if anyone else sees the problem of a mother teaching a child with mental issues how to shoot.
Also, we don't know yet how accessible these firearms were to the shooter...from my understanding, they may not have the same laws regarding storage of firearms that we do here...were the guns openly available to her son?
I know that laying blame won't bring anyone back, but should we maybe take a look at the responsibility of gun owners to ensure that their guns do not fall into the wrong hands?
I for one would not be comfortable having such a stockpile of arms and ammunition available to my mentally challenged son.
Do I blame her for being a prepper and wanting to own a selection of firearms as well as ammunition?
No, I can't.
But I am inclined to point a finger in her direction for teaching her son, who had obvious mental issues how to shoot, and possibly, giving him access.
It does appear that he shot his mother 4 times in the head as she slept, so perhaps there was an underlying issue between them...who knows...we probably never will.
Whatever the reasons or circumstances, I think all parents have the same sick feeling in their stomachs that I have had for the past few days.
My heart goes out to all the families.

So just a quick two cents on my end here. There is a lot of information and rumour out there. Tough to tell what is what. I don't think I know anyone who is not simply sick from this event. We all act differently about it..but the first reaction is we need to do something. And it may be blame someone..blame something...whatever. Its our nature. If you see an injustice you need to react. Its how we are hardwired. And the sad fact is...there is nothing we can do to fix this event...it's over. But lets not get drawn into the blame game or making judgements on what to do next until we know everything that happened. There is already all kinds of misinformation like movie stars making speeches, etc.

Should gun laws in the US change? Perhaps. Perhaps not. Hopefully they can look at it without lobbyists either pro or con trying to twist the facts. The simple fact that the right to bear arms is a constitutional right to our brethren in the US makes it a very different issue than what we would face here.

The reason we simply need to wait in my opinion...is what caught my eye above. Someone mentioned he had Aspergers. It is debatable whether it's a form of autism or not...and whether it even played a roll in this we don't know. Bill Gates the rich computer guy...has Aspergers. People who walk by you on the street could have the condition and you may never know it. It doesn't make them any more dangerous or less dangerous than the next guy. If he had a condition that did, then perhaps it's time to address that in legislation. But we don't know that. I guess what I'm saying is before we hop on our respective bandwagons...either pro or con firearms, laws, etc....lets here what is out there...it will be weeks, months perhaps longer...and Lord knows..as a Dad of a kid in this age group I sure as heck will have my opinion..but on all the facts. Its to soon to turn this into a pro vs. con on gun control...

This is in really bad taste. Especially this close to the shooting...

Personally, I think it is disgusting to be using this for political agendas...
I wonder if she would be calling the government murderous if the other party had have won the last election?

I think this illustrates how deeply divided the politics have become in the US. Paranoia absorbs of both sides of the political spectrum driven by a deep distrust. It is a sad state of affairs but not entirely unpredictable given what has happened in the last ten or so years.

Susan Shannon describes herself as a Christian Conservative. Having read her blogs I think I might describe her as a Paranoid Christian Conservative. Now she may have a point or alternately she may be well off base, it doesn't matter. To make such comments on the heels of such a tragic, horrific event during a time of mourning goes beyond tasteless, it is totally unforgivable!
